History of the boat:
DARK STAR is the 3rd name of this yacht. She began her career as BATTLEWAGON, sailed by John Hanna. BATTLEWAGON was a fixture on the racing scene for many years. She continued to set the pace as GREY EAGLE, sailing from Fishing Bay YC. Bob & Lisa Fleck brought the boat to our attention last summer, and Liz and I purchased her in March. DARK STAR is a classic 1980’s IOR design, and we look forward to picking up where we left off with REPRISAL; expanding our ventures in offshore events and continuing Bay racing.

About the crew:

Owners Doug & Liz Savage live in Alexandria, Virginia. Doug Savage grew up sailing one-design boats in Columbus, Ohio at Leatherlips Yacht Club, beginning in 1976. He crewed on boats on Lake Erie for several years. Later, he sailed competitively for the Navy while serving in the Pacific. After moving to DC for work in 1989, he lived aboard his 30’ boat ANTHEM, and then later began racing that boat at DISC in 1991. Liz Savage has logged over 6,000 miles aboard ANTHEM, TANTRUM and REPRISAL, including a delivery trip back from Bermuda. She began sailing in college but did not begin racing until she moved to DC and joined DISC. She and Doug met at the marina during DISC racing. She has completed USCGA Coastal Navigation and ISAF Safety at Sea Training.
