2022 Officers and Executive Committee Members
Commodore
Peter Fanta was elected Commodore in 2021 for the 2022 season. Pete has served as the DISC Vice Commodore and Race Director in the past. He attended the US Naval Academy and sailed on their Varsity Offshore Team. Since then he has sailed ships and boats in every ocean except the Antarctic. Between ships and boats, Pete has logged hundreds of thousands of sea miles under his keel. Pete sails his J24, Black Squirrel, in the DISC Spin Fleet, and he enjoys bringing on crew members who are new to keel boat racing and introducing them to the fun. Vice Commodore
Dave Lincoln was elected Vice Commodore in 2021 for the 2022 season. Dave served as DISC Treasurer in the past.
Race Director
Nelson Pemberton has served as Race Director since the 2021 season. Nelson has also served as a DISC Vice Commodore in the past. Nelson also serves the Club as the the Protest Chairman, the PHRF Representative, the CBYRA Representative, and our racing rules expert. Nelson provides Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions for all DISC races. Previously, Nelson served as the Spin Fleet Captain for the 2013, 2014 and 2015 seasons. Nelson began sailing at Washington Sailing Marina in the 70s on a Lightning with Frank and Mary Ann Gallagher and he sailed with them for several years. Nelson also sailed with Annapolis Lightning skippers during that time. Nelson eventually formed a racing partnership with Jim Dillard that lasted for twenty years and he still owns and sails a Lightning. Several Lightning sailors, including Frank Gallagher are regulars on Too Many Cooks. In 2000, Nelson began sailing with DISC, the first boat he sailed on was with Doug Savage. Nelson also sailed with Phil Akers. In 2001, Nelson began sailing on Highlander (Tripp 26) with Tim Dickson. In 2003, Nelson and Tim decided Highlander was better suited to compete in Annapolis. Nelson and Tim formed a partnership and brought Too Many Cooks to Washington Sailing marina, and moved Highlander to Annapolis. Nelson has had the good fortune to sail on many different boats over the years – including Pegasus, a Beneteau 36.7 based in Annapolis. Nelson still sends his information to regattas up and down the East Coast, jumping on boats for a few days. Nelson has developed great friendships, and has had plenty of interesting experiences. In addition to Nelson’s own boats, he is a main trimmer/tactician on the J35 Windependent in Annapolis. Nelson is also a coach for the Naval Academy Varsity Offshore Sailing Team.
Treasurer
Dennis Tolliver was elected as Treasurer in 2021 for the 2022 season.
Secretary
Stephen Clements was elected as Secretary in 2020 and 2021 for the 2021 and 2022 season.
Spinnaker Fleet Captain
John Tucker was elected as Spinnaker Fleet Captain in 2021 for the 2022 season. John has been serving as the Race Scoring Official for years and continues to assist with scoring races.
Non-Spinnaker Fleet Captain
David Eidsmoe was elected as Non-Spinnaker Fleet Captain in 2020 and 2021 for the 2021 and 2022 season. David also serves as the Pentagon Sailing Club Commodore. The Pentagon Sailing Club continues to be an active member and race competitor of DISC.
Past Commodore – Executive Committee
Bob Brady serves on the Executive Committee as Past Commodore. Bob was elected Commodore in the fall of 2017 and served through 2021. Bob previously served as Treasurer for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. Bob is originally from the Seattle, Puget Sound area. He was raised most of the time around water while growing up, always finding time for sailing and boating. In 2005, Bob’s airline station manager job brought him and his wife, Maria, and two daughters, Lily and Melissa, to the Washington D.C. area. After a few years away from sailing, Bob found DISC and joined the club. Thanks to skippers Rob Gibb of boat Rogue and Craig Ekman of boat Man-o-War, Bob and Lily were able to crew and get back into the excitement of sailboat racing. Rob and Craig convinced Bob to purchase a sailboat, and in 2014 he purchased a red Kirby 25, Iris. Later, Bob purchased and raced a J24, Reflex. Bob works for the Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration, holding a position in senior leadership. Bob and his family currently reside in Gainesville, VA.
